Windows 10 Migration Status Spreadsheet

I’ve created this spreadsheet and use it to track our progress week by week of our Windows 7 to Windows 10 migration project.  Now that end of support for Windows 7 is under a year away I thought I’d share it for anyone who might find it useful.

From week to week you only need to drop in the current number of Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines, which I pull from Configuration Manager.  The spreadsheet will calculate everything else.

You can download the spreadsheet from my GitHub repository here.

The spreadsheet will calculate:

  • Weekly changes in the number of Windows 7 and Windows 10 counts
  • Running changes in the  number of Windows 7 and Windows 10
  • Average weekly changes in the number of Windows 7 and Windows 10
  • Project completion percentage based on the reduction of Windows 7 counts
  • Percentage mix between Windows 7 and Windows 10 devices
  • Running comparisons between the actual and projected pace
    • Provides the number of machines ahead/behind schedule
    • Provides the number of weeks ahead/behind schedule
  • Monthly and weekly pace required to meet the designated deadline
  • Project dates for hitting 25%/50%/75%/100% completion

How does it work?

The spreadsheet has 2 tabs.  The first is named “Variables”.  Here you will enter in the starting and ending dates of your project and the initial number of Windows 7 machines.  These cells are highlighted in blue.

The spreadsheet will calculate out the number of weeks remaining, the projected pace as well as the Windows 7 counts for 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% completion.

The second tab is named “Worksheet” and is where all the running calculations and formatting is presented.  Each week (highlighted in purple on the “Worksheet” tab) you just have to enter the number of Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines (again the cells will be highlighted in blue).  The formulas will then recalculate progress, remaining pace, expected milestone dates, etc.

Hope it is useful and helps.
